Process to Become a Crisis Support Volunteer
The following information includes a brief history of Victim Services, information about volunteering, as well as the selection and training process. I hope this information is helpful in assisting you with your decision to volunteer. An application form is included on our website.
Should you decide to pursue a volunteer position with us, please complete the website application or call our office if you require further information. You will be contacted to discuss your interest in a volunteer position with Victim Services of Perth County.
Once we receive your application, prospective volunteers go through an application process which includes an interview, three reference checks, a police check, and 40 hours of training. Given the nature of the service we provide, we ask that volunteers make a one year commitment to the program. Volunteers take a minimum of 3 shifts per month, where they carry a pager and are on-call to be available to assist police and emergency services to support victims at short notice. The shifts run from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and from 5:00 PM to 8:00 AM. Volunteers pick their own shifts to accommodate their own schedule. When called out to support a victim, you will always go with a volunteer partner, and will have access to a staff member who coordinates the call. Volunteers are also asked to commit to attend a bi-monthly volunteer meeting.
As a volunteer, you will also be provided with opportunities for ongoing training and social events.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you once again for your interest in Victim Services. We look forward to hearing from you.
